Musical Ideas and Experiments

The pieces below are mostly piled up ideas that I found worth sharing with my friends. Some were recorded long time ago and were meant to become songs, some I recorded and never remembered what even the chords were, so they were doomed to remain as impusive as they were first captured. Not all of these ideas I had and experiments I made are on this server - only the ones that have the seed of something interesting :)). Enjoy!

Notes on the pieces

White Story (or a better translation from Bulgarian would have been "A Fairy-tale in White") was written as an instrumental piece in February 2000 and is based on a chord, used by Paul McCartney. It brings the same mood as Al DiMeola's Winter Nights album and this is why I thought of giving it a winter-like name. Then, thinking of the beautiful fairy-tale written by Valery Petrov, which was one of our favorite tales with Cammie when she was much younger, the text came naturally. It is a verse from this tale that fitted perfectly, and I cannot not translate it in English, since I can only ruin this perfect poetry.

Waltz for Eli is an instrumental piece that was composed one evening in June 2000 and I have dedicated it to the girl that has been next to me witnessing all the evolution of this project. Nikolay Pentchev joined me with a nice trumpet solo. Thanks, Niki, I really enjoyed it...

Each dusk is an instrumental piece inspired by a poem by Cammie, but never actuelly turned into a song. It's a tune I like very much indeed.

Additional Material (my old tapes...)

I had an old tape of 1988-1990 where I had captured a few pieces I did with different musicians. The tapes were ordiinary analogue cassette deck tapes with a very very poor quality compared to today's standards, but nevertheless I've converted them to digital in order to keep them safe. Those are precious things for me and for the people I've them played with and will hardly be of interest to someone that is not familiar with the events they atttempted to capture.

  1. Ritmo De La Noche (mp3) is a tune written by Al Di Meola and played by his band in his "Electric Rendezvous" album (1982). This is a recodring we did in 1988 in Sofia with the BEVIS rock band in its I believe last formation, soon before we all 5 went apart.
  2. Helen's Eyes (mp3) is a very nice tune I wrote and played on many occasions with various musicians. It originated as a piece for two guitars that we used to play with Deyan Shishkov - Diken in those years (not anymore :)). I wrote it for a girl that turned out to be not worth it, but that's life. This recording is done during a rehearsal in the Bulgarian town of Kustendil, where we were supposed to play with a trio - two guitars and a flute - on an open air show. The second guitar on the tape is played by Nikoloi Nikolkov as Deyan could not make it for the rehearsal and came directly to the show.
  3. Ballad (mp3) is a special ballad I wrote again for our duo and it did not fit well the trio setup, moreover the flute player was most of the time driving it towards a blues, which surely does not match. This ballad is all made of minor chords, so you can imagine...
  4. Heavenly Bay (mp3) is the very special piece I wrote again for the guitar duo. It is named after the place we used to camp every year by the sea between 1987 and 1992 - the "Zlatna Ribka" camping by Sozopol, Bulgaria. Used to be the best place on earth, honestly....
  5. Rio Ancho / Mediterranean Sundance (mp3) is the famous DiMeola-DeLucia piece from "Friday Night In San Francisco". This is a recording of the duo Evgueni-Deyan on the very beach in "Zlatna Ribka" sometime between 1988 and 1990, I have no idea when exactly. You can even hear the kids playing around us and the sound of the sea, which is literally two meters away from the cassette recorder. This is the greatest tape I have. I bet we have taped many things throughout the years, but they obviously got lost with so much moving around.
